There are certain landmarks that become part of your journey without you even realizing it. For me, the San Diego California Temple is one of them.

Every time I drive to San Diego, I catch a glimpse of its soaring white spires from the freeway. It’s impossible to miss, and every single time I passed by, I found myself wondering what it looked like inside.

This week, I finally got my answer.

A Rare Opportunity

The San Diego California Temple recently completed a three-year renovation, and before it is rededicated, the Church is hosting a public open house. This is an incredibly rare opportunity because the temple is normally open only to members of the Church after it has been dedicated.

The last time the public was invited inside was in 1993, making this a once-in-a-generation experience for many visitors.

A Guided Tour Through the Temple

Our visit was a guided tour led by knowledgeable volunteers who explained the purpose of each room as we moved through the temple. Rather than wandering on our own, we followed a carefully planned route that gave us time to appreciate both the architecture and the meaning behind each space.

One thing visitors should know is that photography and video are not permitted inside the temple. While I wasn’t able to capture the beautiful interiors for my blog, I can honestly say the experience itself was far more memorable than any photo could have been.

Throughout the tour, I couldn’t help but notice the incredible craftsmanship. Every detail, from the elegant finishes to the peaceful atmosphere, reflected the care that went into the temple’s renovation. Whether you’re religious or simply appreciate beautiful architecture, it’s a remarkable building to experience.

Why This Visit Meant So Much

This visit was special for another reason.

I’ve driven past the San Diego California Temple countless times over the years. It has always been one of those places that caught my attention, and I’ve often wondered what was behind its beautiful exterior.

Being able to finally step inside after so many years of curiosity made this experience even more meaningful.

Planning Your Visit

If you’ve ever wanted to see inside the San Diego California Temple, now is the time.

The public open house runs through July 11, 2026, and admission is free, but reservations are required for the guided tour. Since this opportunity only comes around when a temple is newly built or undergoes a major renovation, it’s not something you’ll want to miss.
